Can Decarburization Cause Quench Cracking?
While decarburization isn’t inherently bad (and it is sometimes even done intentionally), improper atmosphere control and unintentional decarburization can increase the risk of quench cracking in parts during heat treatment. But why? Derek Denlinger, one of our metallurgists, explains what happens to the part’s microstructure during decarburization...and discusses how Paulo prevents this from happening in this installment of our Metallurgy Minute.
