Engineering + Metallurgy
Analyzing, testing, and creating solutions to complex thermal processing challenges.
Working as an Extension of Your Team
With the most in-house metallurgists of any commercial heat treater and a dedicated engineering team, working with us is like having the industry’s best thermal processing team integrated into your own operation.
Consultation and Support
If you’re developing a new part or evaluating the specifications on your current parts, our expert team can support you with the metallurgy and engineering knowledge necessary to optimize your parts for heat treatment, which will yield better quality end results. We can advise you on material selection, analyze part design, and help you evaluate the effectiveness of your current heat treatment specifications.
Failure Analysis
We take part failure as seriously as you do. We can perform failure analysis as part of your product or process development or to help you determine the root cause of part failure that occurred in the field. To give you peace of mind, we use a Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA) or Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) approach, which are proven methods for identifying risks and root causes of failure.
Process Monitoring
Today’s environment demands a proactive approach to supply chain management. In addition to performing required testing and ensuring your parts meet specifications, our metallurgists analyze trends in the results of your testing that can sometimes identify potential issues occurring earlier in your supply chain. For example, in the past we’ve noticed results drifting in a particular way which led our customer to identify a problem with their raw material. While the parts were technically still meeting spec, it allowed them to prevent a problem from occurring that would have cost thousands of dollars and created a bottleneck in their production.
Third-Party Analysis
If you’re like many of our customers, then you likely work with several thermal processing providers. We often help our current customers evaluate the performance of other heat treaters by performing third-party testing of their components.
Enhance your knowledge with the Metallurgy Minute
Our metallurgists produce a series of short, educational videos that can help you understand more about the material science of your parts!
Start LearningDestructive Testing
Destructive testing can help you prevent part failure in the field because it helps you understand the threshold for part failure.
Types of destructive testing we perform include:
- Corrosion Testing
- Fracture & Mechanical Testing
- Fatigue Testing
- Residual Stress Measurement
Hardness Testing
Hardness is one of the most important characteristics for many parts that undergo heat treatment. We use various hardness testing methods to ensure your parts meet specifications for parameters such as case depth
Types of hardness testing we perform include:
- Rockwell hardness
- Brinnell hardness
- Microhardness
Is there a metallurgy topic you’d like to learn more about?
We produce a video series called the Metallurgy Minute to share knowledge about metallurgical concepts with manufacturers across a variety of markets. Have a topic you’re curious about? Submit your question to our team, and we may feature it in a future Metallurgy Minute episode!
