Benefits of Combining HIP and High-Pressure Heat Treating for AM Cobalt Chrome Parts

Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) processes are becoming more widely adopted in place of traditional castings for a variety of industrial applications. Combining key heat treatment processes with hot isostatic pressing (HIP) by utilizing fast cooling rates can benefit static properties as well as improve turn-around time for HIP processing. We tested a variety of processing combinations on Cobalt Chrome F75 components to see how the properties were affected.

In this video, Derek Denlinger discusses the results of our study and the benefits of combining these processes on Cobalt Chrome F75 parts manufactured using LPBF. By watching this video, you will learn:

  • Why CoCr F75 is being increasingly used in additive manufacturing
  • How HIP, high-pressure heat treating, slow cooling, and rapid cooling affect a variety of mechanical properties in CoCr F75 including direct hardness, strength, fatigue, and more
  • How four different processing methods impact CoCr F75
