Paulo Nashville Division Expansion

The past two years Paulo has significantly invested in the Nashville Division. The facility was expanded, adding 30,000 sqft. from an adjacent building which was connected to the existing facility.

Construction begins on the newly acquired space.

Vacuum Department Modularization

The additional space allowed for the installation of a SECO vacuum furnace capable of low pressure carbuirizing and the installation of a GM (60″x36″x36″) vacuum furnace with 15 bar quench and an 8000lb capacity.  The vacuum department was relocated to the new building creating optimal positioning and a streamlined approach to part handling and processing. Material handling is a strategic focus for Paulo; reducing touches allows for safer and more efficient handling of work. The layout optimizes overnight processing of tool steels and high volume production jobs. Highlights of the new Vacuum Department include:

  • New 4-ton bridge crane servicing vacuum furnace load handling.
  • Installation of new SECO and GM vacuum furnaces – additional processing capabilities include low pressure carburizing and 15 bar gas quench
  • Install of two deep freezes
  • Eight new Paulo designed and manufactured tempering furnaces

The new vacuum department is modular and allows additional vacuum furnaces to be installed with ease.

Expand Integral Quench Capacity and Material Handling

The integral quench line has been expanded by purchasing and installing two new AFC 36X48X36 furnaces. The furnaces are fully equipped to provide conventional heat treat processes as carburize, carbonitride, neutral hardening but has been expanded to include hot oil quenching and ferritic nitrocarburizing . Three Paulo built tempers were added to support the increase in capacity. A pass-thru washer has been purchased and will be installed in the 3rd Quarter of 2017.  The charge car line was extended and three material handling stations were added to allow more efficient load building. Each station includes video monitors that track fixture and load weights to maintain consistent and uniform load sizing. Storage racks have been added to reduce fork truck usage and provide a safer work area.  The entire line has been upgraded with controls that allow PUBS, Paulo’s proprietary supervisory control system to function.

Future Picture

The expansion project is nearing completion.  The final vacuum furnace is being installed and will be released for production in August of 2017. Coming soon are new office spaces including plant management offices, conference rooms, customer experience center, and a remodeled quality laboratory. Paulo has engaged architects Tao + Lee Associates to design the new office space to be functional and comfortable for employees and visitors.  Construction of the new office space will be complete early 2018.  Our Nashville team has grown with the plant, from 46 employees at the end of 2015 to over 60 today.

William Rassieur, Vice President Sales, commented, “As we near the completion of several great additions to our Nashville Plant, the excitement to show off our improvements is growing. Our team has worked long and hard to make this all happen and we can’t wait for our customers to experience it. Not only have we added capacity but we have improved product flow and staging areas for quicker and safer throughput. We also took this opportunity to install cutting edge technology throughout the plant. This is a very exciting time in a growing market. With these improvements and new accreditations on the way we can’t wait to see how we can continue to lead the marketplace.”
