Metallurgy Minute 006: What In the World is HIP?

There are many reasons why a manufacturer would want to minimize any internal voids or porosity in a part. This is where HIP, short for Hot Isostatic Press, comes in. HIP applies high temperatures and high pressure to a part from all directions, helping to close those spaces. In this Metallurgy Minute, Paulo metallurgist Derek Delinger gives an overview of HIP and some examples of what it can do.
