PICS is an acronym for Production Information Client-Server System, the proprietary information system we have developed for our operations. PICS is the instructional backbone of our quality system. It puts vital information about your parts at the source that can make sure the job is done right. It helps us run your parts properly so we can meet your needs regarding quality and service. But it doesn't stop there - the information carried on the PICS system helps us reduce variation in our process to deliver a product that exceeds your needs at no additional cost to you.
- Every order we receive is entered in PICS.
- Processing instructions for every part that we process is stored in the database to be retrieved when an order is entered.
- Data for hundreds of "generic" processes provide instructions for such parts as tooling components that are unique.
- The PICS system tracks every order from receipt, through processing and inspection, shipment and billing.
- Every plant is on the information network.
PICS ensures that we consistently perform each unique detail that is important to the successful processing of each item we process.
PICS allows Paulo to set up the best practice as the standard for all plants.
PICS is the platform but it is far from the total system. Here are some other important features:
- Data Management
- The data in the system is key to its success. Process instructions come from many sources: customer specifications, our Engineering Department and technical personnel in each plant. To ensure that the data is entered properly each plant has a Process Administrator who is the "librarian" for this data. One of the departments at Corporate Headquarters is the Information Center. This department fulfills three functions: process administration, estimating and billing.
- Production Management
- Software has been developed to schedule and log production activity.
- Process Control Systems
- Some production departments use PICS data to provide temperature, time and other data to feed equipment controls.
- Identification & Traceability
- With PICS' unique numbering system we are able to maintain a watchful eye on your product from when it arrives to when we ship it back to you.
- Customer Service
- Customer service departments use PICS data to respond to customer requests for information.
PICS and related systems are being expanded to serve your needs and to fulfill our continuous improvement objectives. Most importantly, PICS helps us serve our Customers better every day.
